Batman is one of the most famous and recognizable characters in comic book history, first appearing in Detective Comics #27, May 1939. Since then, several iterations of the character have been developed and expanded upon by a wide variety of writers and artists. He has faced everyone in the DC universe at one point or another and is one of the founding members of the Justice Legue.
