History
Granny Goodness did not begin as one of the higher-level residents of Apokolips, but was instead one of the "Lowlies" - the brutally-oppressed peasant class. She was removed from her parents and trained to be one of Darkseid's "Hounds" (his elite soldiers). One part of their training was to train their dog; Goodness named hers Mercy. Through combat and training, the two bonded. As the final step of her initiation into life as a Hound, she was told to kill her beloved pet. Instead, she killed her trainer for ordering this. When Darkseid asked why, she answered that "to have done otherwise would have robbed my lord of a most valuable asset," telling him that Mercy would obey her first, but him foremost. Testing this, Darkseid ordered Mercy to kill Goodness. Mercy attacked Goodness, forcing Goodness to kill her pet. Darkseid was impressed, telling Goodness that she had graduated with honors. "You have trained Mercy so well in my name that perhaps you'll do as well training others whose blind obedience I will one day require."
Darkseid had Granny run the training facility for his elite soldiers, where she uses brainwashing and torture, in a brutal parody of child care, to turn the innocent into fanatical warriors willing to kill or die for Darkseid's glory. Since the war between Apokolips and New Genesis first moved to Earth, Granny Goodness has often run Earthly orphanages, looking for potential warriors for Darkseid.
Granny runs the "orphanage" on Apokolips and is the chief of the Female Furies. She also raised Scott Free, the son of Highfather of New Genesis who had been traded for Darkseid's son as part of a peace treaty. Scott Free (AKA Mister Miracle) became the first child to successfully escape one of her Orphanages.
In the final issue of the Amazons Attack miniseries it was revealed that Granny Goodness has been posing as Athena, having been manipulating the Amazons into the war. It also appears that Goodness was posing as Athena in the Countdown series, using Amazon centers to recruit new female fighters. She is also holding the Gods of Olympus prisoner. After the gods were freed by Mary Marvel, Holly Robinson and Harley Quinn, Granny was attacked and killed by Infinity-Man.
However, due to reasons yet to be revealed, Granny Goodnes survived her apparent death in the Infinite Man's purging of the New Gods and has become an astral being, still serving Darkseid in his most recent scheme in the pages of "Final Crisis". She has since possessed Alpha-Green Lantern Kraeken, granting her the powers of the Green Lantern ring and the authority as the Corps's "internal affairs" officer. As such, Granny has successfully arranged for Hal Jordan to be framed for the murder of the New God Orion. However, Granny's scheme was briefly exposed when Kraeken regained control over her body long enough to plead for help from Batman, who was proptly overpowered by Granny and taken away for imprisonment inside of Darkseid's compound in Bludhaven.
Powers and Abilities
Powers
New God Physiology: These New Gods have evolved due to their close proximity to the Source, a primeaval energy, believed to be one of the ultimate foundations of the Universal Expression of Energy, along with their superior technology, into beings of genetic stability and evolutionary perfection. The denizens of New Genesis are stronger, faster, and smarter than homo sapiens, despite their resemblance to the same.
- Immortality: The New Gods, are functionally immortal, having ceased aging physically near the age of 30. Unless they fall in battle, they are immune to the ravages of time, and could easily live for thousands upon thousands of years.
- Invulnerability: They are resistant to blunt trauma like punches, kicks, and blows from weapons like bats and maces, though not -completely- immune; unless the blows a dealt by a being with similar or greater strength, there just isn't a chance of injury. However, this invulnerability does not extend to bullets, laser-blasts, or other piercing/slicing weapons - their invulnerability is more akin to that of an Amazon, rather than a Kryptonian.
- Superhuman Strength: As a New God is naturally greater than that of a human man or woman of their (approximate) build and stature who engages in regular intensive exercise, their exposure to the Generation Matrix enhanced that twenty-fold. Their strength can me measured in the hundreds of thousands of tons.
- Superhuman Stamina: New God stamina and endurance is nothing short of amazing. Due to the naturally exhausting and extensive rigors of their life on Apokolips or Stamina training on New Genesis, a New God is able to manage their stamina on a certain amount of rest and sustenance (more than minimal) so that it seems they are able to constantly function, though this is not entirely the case. Tied directly to their strength and invulnerability, even their immunity to a certain extent, They can actually function at peak efficiency for almost 48 hours before needing to eat and rest off the stress.
- Superhuman Reflexes: Like all New Gods, they have a highly developed nervous system. Their reaction speed and eye-hand coordination is superior to a normal human's. They can move fast enough dodge a bullet before the gun fires and react with blinding speed.
- Superhuman Immunity: New Gods has an extremely evolved immune system. It explains how some are able to survive on Apokolips for years without dying of a dozen diseases and toxins. In addition, he has developed immunity to a number of toxins and diseases.
Apokoliptian Tech Interface: ability to use Apokoliptian technology without being consumed by it.
Usurped Powers (formerly): stole the powers of the Olympian gods.

As Superman isn't around, Flash volunteers to help them. After Kalibak is released from the X-Pits, Flash frees Oberon after revealing the Kalibak with Mister Miracle is really Martian Manhunter in disguise and Kalibak is imprisoned in jail on Earth.
