History
Lucy, like her big sister Lois, grew up an army brat under their father, Sam Lane. Lois was always more of a daredevil and a troublemaker, however. Owing to her being the younger child, Lucy was sometimes more spoilt by her strict father (or at least, he was more inclined to get over her failings).
When she was grown up, Lucy became a flight attendant until a mysterious ailment left her blind. Depressed with her life, Lucy attempted suicide by jumping off a roof in Metropolis, only to be rescued by the first Bizarro. This Bizarro had a chalky white substance that coated his body and coming into contact with it somehow restored Lucy's sight. The Bizarro allowed itself to be destroyed, but in giving Lucy her sight back she got a new appreciation for life.[1]
Lucy played a very small part in modern continuity. Once she was kidnapped by the villain Sleez and another time she was seriously injured by Deathstroke.[2]
Lucy later dates Jimmy Olsen, but eventually breaks up with him after he quits the Daily Planet and goes to work for WGBS.
While she was still dating Jimmy, Lucy met another Daily Planet reporter, Ron Troupe. Ron was instantly attracted to Lucy, much to his embarassment (although luckily for him, Jimmy was too thick to pick up on it). After Lucy and Jimmy breakup, Lucy asks Ron out on a date.[3] Ron later has to call on Superman to help rescue Lucy from an escaped ape-like creature that broke out of STAR Labs. When Jimmy, on scene filming the rescue makes light of the event (as though it was just good television), Lucy punches him out.[4]
When Lois and Clark finally decide to get married, Lucy is responsible for throwing her sister both the bachelorette party and the bridal shower. Lucy has good intentions, but Lois is a little perturbed when the theme for the bridal shower ends up being "happy homemaker." Lucy is Lois's Maid of Honor (and ironically enough, Jimmy is the Best Man).[5]
After dating Ron for some time, Lucy ends up getting pregnant. She only tells Ron after she visits an abortion clinic, getting information about all her alternatives.[6] Ron is opposed to the abortion, and begs Lucy not to rush into anything. Lucy asks Ron not to tell anyone about the pregnancy until she settles on what she's going to do. Ron, nevertheless, ends up telling Jimmy after Ron is fired (along with nearly everyone else) as Lex Luthor buys out the Daily Planet and shuts it down.[7] Jimmy then blurts out the news to Lois, who is relieved that Jimmy is not the father.[8] Lucy and Ron decide to keep the baby and plan on getting married. His parents take the news very well--hers do not. Sam nearly throttles Ron and Elinore insists that Lucy give up the baby for adoption.[9]
After months of delays and pressure from her family, Lucy Lane and Ron Troupe were finally married in a small ceremony during Lucy's ninth month of pregnancy (Lois and Lucy crashed Ron's bachelor party, hiding in the giant cake). Lois is with Lucy when she gave birth a few weeks later.[10]
